Summertime Eating Tips

Summer is here and the eating is easy. Indulging in tasty treats while embracing the summer vibes sounds divine. But with all the dining out and yummy outdoor gatherings, smart eating can go by the wayside. You want to make sure you’re maintaining healthy food habits and a well-balanced diet to ensure you’re fueled for fun and good health. Go for the ripe stuff! Eat up your veggies and fruit – especially the seasonal ones. In-season superstars tend to be more fresh and flavourful, nutrient-dense and budget-friendly, and will help keep you happy and healthy all season long. Research has consistently shown that putting more fruits and veggies on your plate, along with a variety of nuts, legumes and whole grains, can help reduce your risk of major lifestyle diseases, and keep you living leaner and longer. The vitamins, minerals and powerful phytonutrients are just so darn good for you and contribute to healthy aging. “Summer is a great time to enjoy fresh produce. You’ll often find it locally grown and in season, which helps preserve valuable nutrients,” says registered dietitian Cheryl Strachan, founder of Sweet Spot Nutrition. “Your local farmers’ market is a great place to find in season foods and connect with others in your community.” All fruits have something good to offer, so choose the ones you enjoy. “Whole fruit is best (skip the juice), and there’s no need to stress about sugar content. Even if you have diabetes, the natural sugar in fruit is far outweighed by the benefits of eating 3-5 servings a day,” says Strachan, also a nutritionist, cardiac specialist and author of 30-Minute Heart Healthy Cookbook. Fresh fruits are a healthy delight, but that said, berries deserve special mention! Blueberries and strawberries, in particular, have been linked to better memory and thinking skills as we age, she says. “They’re rich in flavonoids, compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory powers that help protect the brain. Aim to have them at least twice a week – fresh or frozen.” When it comes to veggies, the health-packed pickings are easy. All vegetables are good for you, from crisp iceberg lettuce to dark, leafy kale. “The key is variety: aim for a mix of colours and, most importantly, choose vegetables you enjoy and will actually eat,” says the Calgary nutrition expert. Top spot goes to dark leafy greens when it comes to benefitting brain health. Eating just one serving a day – about 1 cup raw (like in a salad) or ½ cup cooked – has been linked to slower memory decline as we age. The most nutrient-dense leafy greens include: Although spring mix, green/red leaf lettuce, and butter lettuce have fewer nutrients, include them for variety. And don’t overlook frozen options – frozen spinach or kale is just as nutritious and often more convenient, says Strachan. “Toss leafy greens into salads, soups, omelets, grain bowls, or smoothies. A handful here and there can go a long way.” Meanwhile, be sure to stay hydrated – that includes drinking more water and eating  hydrating foods. Staying hydrated helps you feel your best, especially on hot summer days. “But as we age, we may not feel as thirsty, even when our bodies need fluids. Instead of counting glasses, watch your urine: if it’s dark yellow, or if you have a dry mouth, headache, low energy, or feel lightheaded, it may be time to drink more,” advises Strachan, who hosts Sweet Spot Kitchen community to help people living with heart disease get healthy eating support and ideas. Water is wonderful, but other drinks count too: Meanwhile, most fruits and vegetables are naturally hydrating, says Strachan, and the good thing is most water-rich fruits and veggies also provide electrolytes like potassium, which helps with fluid balance in the body. The most hydrating fruits and veggies: Seasonal produce can be such a healthy delight so eat with the seasons when you can. Strachan offers these two recipes to savour the flavours of some of summer’s best offerings. Crunchy Peanut Cabbage Salad Tossed with affordable ingredients, this salad is also great because it’s hardy enough to stand up to a few days in the fridge, feeding you more than once. Ingredients: 1. Salad 4 cups shredded green cabbage 1/2 cup uncooked farro about 1 cup of cooked farro, or similar grain like brown rice or barley 3 each small mandarin oranges 1 can sliced water chestnuts 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro 1/2 cup chopped green onions 1/2 cup chopped unsalted peanuts * 2. Blueberry Summer Salad Think of lettuce as a canvas upon which you can pile on your favourite fresh, colourful, nutritious toppings. You can even let the lettuce go and make salads out of beans, grains, or just crunchy chopped fresh vegetables. Enjoy! On Father’s Day, this YouTube dad is there for you

Yay for Father’s Day. Let’s celebrate fathers and father-like figures everywhere for all the caring, encouraging and mentoring they do! Dads are often called on to offer advice and teach everyday life skills – that’s their specialty. Whether it’s how to fix a leaky faucet, prune an azalea the right way or manage money, they come to the rescue with their words of wisdom. What dad hasn’t heard, “Dad, how do I…?” Well, Rob Kenney sure has and this dad is always more than happy to dole out handy DIY advice for everyday home fixes and life fixes to all his “kids” – millions of them! Kenney’s practical “dadvice” has made him a YouTube sensation – his “Dad, How Do I?” channel has more 5.2 million subscribers and growing! Across multiple platforms, he has close to 7 million followers and is known the world over as the “Internet Dad.” Fix those pesky home problems “I never ever thought I’d go viral. I started the channel ‘Dad, How Do I?’ in April of 2020 thinking I would help 30 or 40 people learn some life skills. However, by the end of May, I had over 1 million subscribers!” Kenney, a homeowner and dad of two adult children, tells Custodia. In his gentle, fatherly manner, the 61 year old offers guidance on how to repair pesky home problems; everything from fixing a clogged sink and a running toilet to installing a ceiling fan or changing a door, and so much more. And viewers will also find wholesome tutorials on basic life tasks: Frying an egg? No problem. Shave your face? Lather up with Kenney. Baking a cake? Sweet. His how-to tie a tie video garnered more than 3 million views! The warm, humble Kenney – think Mr. Rogers – started the channel 5 years ago because he wanted to teach valuable skills to kids who, like him, didn’t have a dad growing up. Well, now he’s a virtual dad to millions of all ages – there are even 80-year-old “kids” that come to his channel for some friendly advice. “Learning to fix things around the house helps build confidence and empowers you to be independent. A lot of simple fixes can also save you lots of money over time!” says Kenney, who just returned from Stockholm where he shared his inspirational story alongside other speakers, including Super Bowl champion Tom Brady. Abandoned by his dad A dad of all trades and self-proclaimed introvert, Kenney didn’t set out to become the Internet’s Dad but doing something so positive helps him power through a virtual world so different from his once simple, private life. “I’m truly honoured and blessed to have been given the platform. My channel is for anyone and everyone that could use a little help or encouragement.” Kenney could have used some of that support when his dad abandoned the family of eight kids; although he harbours no bitterness and long ago forgave his father, the experience motivates him to lift others with kindness, compassion and heartfelt advice that would have benefited him. “I think my channel resonates because my dad left when I was 14, and I had to learn a lot of basic things the hard way. I do believe it gives me a level of empathy that I wouldn’t otherwise have” – and a whole lot of basic handyman skills too. Kenney is a former office supply salesman who is now semi-retired and living off – and loving – his YouTube channel. His family is his first love – he’s been married to Annelli for 34 years and they share two successful children, Kristine, 33, and Kyle, 30. “Forgive and ask for forgiveness” “I love being a dad to my kids. I tried to enjoy each phase of their childhood, and we still talk several times a week,” says Kenney. Raising kids is tough work but the greatest work: “We didn’t always do everything right, but I think our kids always knew (still know) that we wanted the best for them.” His parenting advice: “Forgiving and asking for forgiveness. The reality is you won’t always do things perfectly, so I would set the precedent at an early age that when you do handle something incorrectly, go back to your kids and admit it, and ask them to forgive you. Also be quick to forgive them as well.” Fixing relationships in general? “Forgiveness is huge. Also, listening to what the other person has to say before talking. So often, we don’t listen because we’re thinking what we’re going to say.” Give your dad the gift of time Kenney is the dad the world needs. Aside from his life lessons and dad hacks, he also shares dad chats and encouraging words, telling his watchers how proud he is of them. He also excels at telling bad dad jokes to his captive audience. “My son said he didn’t understand cloning. I told him ‘that makes 2 of us’.” Ahhh! “Did you hear about the short psychic who escaped from prison? He’s a small medium at large!” Jokes aside, just what is Kenney doing for Father’s Day? Something very low key with his family. “The best gift my kids can give me is their time.”

Exterior Summer Home Maintenance Checklist in Canada

Summer in Canada is short, sweet, and full of possibility. After a long winter and a damp spring, there’s something deeply satisfying about stepping outside and giving your home some care. With extended daylight and milder temperatures, summer offers the perfect window to check in on your home’s exterior—tidy up, fix what winter weather wore down, and plan simple updates that make outdoor living more enjoyable. Here’s a practical, seasonal guide to help you keep your summer home maintenance in good shape—one manageable task at a time. 1. Check the Roof and Gutters Our winters don’t go easy on rooftops. Ice, wind, and freezing rain can loosen shingles or clog gutters. A quick inspection for damaged or missing shingles, especially on older roofs, can prevent costly leaks later. While you’re up there (or someone is), clear out leaves and debris from gutters to ensure proper drainage. 2. Clean and Protect Outdoor Surfaces Dirt, salt, and algae build up quietly through the colder months. A power washer works wonders on driveways, porches, patios, and siding—restoring their original look and preparing surfaces for repairs or sealant. Wood decks benefit from an annual scrub and resealing, especially in wetter climates like the West Coast. Vinyl siding? A hose and gentle cleaner will do the trick. 3. Examine Windows, Doors, and Seals Summer Home Maintenance warmth makes it the ideal time to refresh worn window trim and repaint doors that have faded or chipped. It’s also smart to check the caulking and weather stripping—sealing up gaps not only keeps out insects but also improves efficiency for air conditioning and heating down the line. 4. Refresh Fences and Gates Fence posts often shift during winter’s freeze-thaw cycle. Check that your fencing stands solid and gate latches work properly. Repaint or stain wood fences if they’ve started to fade or peel—besides the aesthetic value, it helps protect against moisture damage in humid or coastal regions. 5. Tidy Up the Garage Your garage might have become a winter catch-all. Now’s the time to declutter, sweep, and consider some small improvements. Wall shelving, floor sealants, or even a pegboard for tools can turn a chaotic space into a functional one. Hanging bikes and gardening tools can also free up valuable room. 6. Air Conditioning & Ventilation Check Beat the heat before it begins. Clear debris from around your outdoor AC unit, replace filters, and schedule a quick service if it’s been a while. It’s easier to do this now than wait for a mid-July breakdown. 7. Lawn & Garden Equipment Care Sharpen your mower blades, check your trimmer’s battery or fuel levels, and ensure your gardening gear is ready for the growing season. Well-maintained tools last longer and make outdoor upkeep quicker and easier. 8. Inspect the Foundation and Driveway A slow walk around your home can reveal small cracks in your foundation or along the driveway that might have formed over winter. Sealing these early helps prevent moisture intrusion and more expensive issues in the future. 9. Plan for Water and Irrigation Whether you’re in a dry Prairie region or the rainy Maritimes, smart water management goes a long way. Check hose connections, fix leaky spigots, and consider setting up a rain barrel or a simple drip irrigation system to make watering efficient and sustainable. 10. Light Touches That Go a Long Way Small upgrades—like swapping out old house numbers, repainting the mailbox, or adding solar path lights—can refresh your home’s look with minimal effort. A few window boxes or a couple of pots by the door can offer a colourful welcome all summer long. 11. Landscaping & Trees Now’s a great time to prune away dead branches, shape shrubs, and weed garden beds. Avoid major tree pruning unless recommended, but feel free to tidy up the overgrowth. If you have plans to add new plants, read up on what thrives in your region and opt for native species for easier care. 12. Safety and Seasonal Projects If you’re tackling larger jobs—like deck repairs, shed installations, or driveway resurfacing—don’t skip safety. Always wear proper protection, check instructions and permits, and hire help when needed. Summer might feel casual, but smart planning keeps things stress-free. A Season to Enjoy The beauty of Summer Home Maintenance is that it’s not just about chores—it’s about creating a space you enjoy coming home to. Whether you’re prepping for weekend barbecues or planning a future sale, these small acts of upkeep can add comfort, value, and peace of mind. Your home’s been through another Canadian winter. Now, it’s time to show it a little love—and soak up every bit of the sunshine while you’re at it.  Call Custodia at 18 33 410 4357

Backyard Safety Tips for a Safer Canadian Summer

When summer finally arrives in Canada, backyards come alive—barbecues sizzle, kids bounce on trampolines, and evenings stretch out by the fire pit. But while your outdoor space may feel like a personal retreat, it’s also where safety matters most. With a bit of preparation and awareness, your Backyard safety tips can stay both welcoming and worry-free. Here’s how to enjoy your summer oasis while keeping your family and guests protected. Water Features are Beautiful but Risky Ponds, fountains, and even shallow garden basins may seem peaceful, but for young children, they can pose serious hazards. Just a few inches of water can be enough to cause drowning. Trampolines: Fun with Limits Trampolines are a classic backyard favourite, but they’re also responsible for thousands of injuries each year—especially among kids. Playsets: Regular Checks Keep Play Safe Climbing structures and swings bring hours of joy—but wear and tear from Canadian weather can compromise their safety. Fire Pits Are For Marshmallows, Not Mayhem Few things say summer like sitting around a fire. But open flames call for extra attention. Lawn Mower Safety Maintaining a tidy lawn is part of Canadian summer living—but lawn mowers are powerful tools that require respect. Summer’s too short to spend it dealing with preventable accidents. A few small steps—regular checks, clear rules, and safe habits—can make all the difference. Whether you’re hosting neighbours or playing catch with the kids, creating safety backyard tips means more time to relax and enjoy everything the season has to offer. So fire up the grill, fluff the cushions, and keep the first aid kit tucked away—you probably won’t need it.

Replace HVAC filters if needed—an easy fix with long-term benefit. 6. Plumbing Check Peek under sinks and along visible pipes. Look for signs of rust, moisture, or stress. Don’t forget slow drains and running toilets—they’re quiet but costly over time. 7. Keep Gutters Clear A visual check for leaves or blockages in your gutters helps prevent future headaches, especially if storms are on the way. Custodia’s teams offer gutter inspection and clearing as part of seasonal service plans. 8. Refill the Basics Cleaning products, sponges, lightbulbs—they run low quietly. Restocking once a month keeps your home humming without the last-minute scramble. 9. Walkabout Wisdom Take a walk through the attic, basement, garage, and yard. These quick checks help catch pests, leaks, or unnoticed damage. Look up, down, and around. 10. Update Your Records New couch? Repaired appliance? Snap a photo and file the receipt. Keeping your home inventory current is an easy win if the unexpected ever occurs. At Custodia, we believe home should be a place of calm—not a source of stress. What Paint Finish is Best for Outdoor Use in Canada?

Are you wondering which paint finish will best protect your home’s exterior this summer in Canada? As spring winds down and warmer days approach, many families—especially seniors—are planning outdoor painting projects.  Selecting the right paint finish for exterior use is crucial. It affects not only your home’s curb appeal but also its durability against Canada’s unique weather challenges. You need a finish that withstands harsh UV rays, heavy rain, and temperature swings. Moreover, it should be easy to clean and maintain, so your home stays beautiful year-round.  Many experts recommend satin or semi-gloss finishes for their perfect balance of durability, weather resistance, and aesthetic appeal. Before you start, consider consulting Custodia Home Management Services for a professional inspection and expert guidance.  Our expert painters (and handymen) can ensure your exterior paint job lasts longer and looks stunning all season. Why Satin and Semi-Gloss Finishes Are Best for Outdoor Use in Canada Satin and semi-gloss paints offer more than just beauty; they provide a durable paint finish that resists cracking, peeling, and fading—critical in Ontario’s harsh weather.  Moreover, their weather-resistant paint qualities protect your home from sun, rain, and humidity. After storms, these finishes remain easy to clean, letting you spend less time maintaining and more time enjoying family moments outdoors.  Plus, their subtle sheen boosts curb appeal, giving your home a fresh, modern look. Choosing satin or semi-gloss means choosing lasting beauty and peace of mind. What Paint Finish Works Best on Different Outdoor Surfaces? In Ontario’s ever-changing climate, picking the right outdoor paint finish isn’t just about looks—it’s about long-term protection, easy maintenance, and creating a space your family actually enjoys being in. A satin finish is the most popular siding paint finish in Canada. It balances durability with style, resists mildew, and hides small imperfections beautifully. Semi-gloss paint for outdoors works best here. It adds a pop of shine and stands up to daily wear from hands, keys, and changing weather. These need specialized deck paint finishes with anti-slip texture and UV protection. Look for breathable paints that won’t peel under foot traffic or sun. [Read: Is it Cheaper to Repair or Replace a Deck in Canada?] Use outdoor paint for metal with rust-inhibitors and flexible finishes to handle snow and rain. Choose breathable masonry paint in Canada that flexes with freeze-thaw cycles and seals out moisture. Choosing the Right Color and Finish for Exterior Curb Appeal Your home’s exterior isn’t just a shell—it sets the tone for how welcome, warm, and loved it feels. Light reflective outdoor paints keep surfaces cooler in summer. Darker tones may look rich but can absorb more heat and fade faster.   A satin exterior paint offers soft elegance. A semi-gloss finish brings vibrant contrast to accents. Both boost curb appeal without going overboard. Modern homes love bold contrasts. Farmhouses lean into soft whites and earth tones. Let your finish reflect the architectural character. 5 Expert Tips For Painting Outdoors In Canada Painting your home exterior isn’t just a weekend chore—it’s an investment in comfort, pride, and protection. In Ontario, weather can change fast, so timing and preparation matter more than you think. 1. Prep Is Everything Start with a deep clean. Remove dirt, mildew, and loose paint. Sand rough edges and always prime. It’s the base layer your paint needs to truly stick. 2. Watch the Weather The best temperature for exterior painting in Canada is between 10°C and 25°C, with low humidity. Too cold? Paint won’t cure. Too hot? It dries too fast and cracks. 3. Choose the Right Tools High-quality brushes and rollers reduce streaks. Use angled brushes for trim and railings. For large siding areas, a sprayer saves time and gives smoother results. 4. Don’t Rush Dry Times  Each coat needs time to bond. Rushing can lead to bubbling and peeling. 5. Use Finish Wisely  Match paint finishes to surfaces. Semi-gloss paint for trim, satin for siding, and textured anti-slip for deck paint finishes. Final Thoughts + Pro Tip Your home’s exterior deserves more than just a quick coat.  With the right exterior paint colors, finish, and prep—you’re not just improving your curb appeal; you’re creating a beautiful space where your family can enjoy time outdoors, make memories, and feel proud every time they pull into the driveway. How Profitable Is Building Decks In Canada?

Have you ever considered your backyard and thought, “This space could be so much more”?  Across Canada, families—especially seniors—are transforming outdoor areas with deck additions that add comfort, value, and joy.  A well-built deck does more than improve curb appeal. It enhances daily living and increases home resale value. Homeowners can recover up to 75% of a wood deck’s cost when selling. That’s a strong return for a renovation that also creates a relaxing place to unwind, host family, or simply enjoy summer evenings. Yet, for many, maintaining that dream space can become stressful.  That’s why Custodia Home Management Services offers help across Ontario—handling deck upkeep, yard work, and seasonal chores so seniors and busy families can enjoy peace of mind. If you’re wondering whether deck building in Ontario, Canada is profitable, this guide will show you the facts and how to make the most of your investment. 5 Ways Decks Increase Property Value and Buyer Appeal What are the benefits of a deck? Most homeowners in Ontario know decks add beauty. But did you know a deck can speak volumes to buyers—emotionally and financially? Let’s reveal five (5) often-overlooked but powerful ways building a deck increases property value and buyer appeal in Canada: 1. Creates an Instant Emotional Connection Buyers imagine warm summer nights, laughter with family, or sipping coffee at sunrise. That emotional pull can seal a sale faster than any upgraded kitchen. 2. Expands Living Space Without Full Renovation In today’s market, buyers value functional outdoor living. A well-designed deck feels like an extra room—without the cost of interior renovations. 3. Increases Perceived Square Footage Visual spaciousness adds value. A deck gives the impression of a larger, more luxurious home, especially in suburban Ontario where outdoor space matters. 4. Attracts the Right Buyer Faster Homes with decks stand out in listings. More people searching for “homes with backyard decks in Ontario” are ready to pay a premium for that lifestyle. 5. Strengthens Family Appeal For buyers with kids or aging parents, a deck promises connection. It’s a safe, open-air space for bonding, play, or just relaxing—right at home. Real Costs of Building a Deck in Canada Building a deck in Canada is an investment in both lifestyle and property value. However, understanding the costs involved is crucial for making an informed decision. The cost to build a deck varies across Canada. On average, homeowners can expect to pay between $50 to $100 CAD per square foot, depending on factors like materials, design complexity, and location.  Opting for a DIY approach can save on labour costs, but it’s essential to consider your skill level and the time commitment required.  Professional installation ensures quality and adherence to local building codes, potentially saving money in the long term by avoiding costly mistakes. [Read: Is it Cheaper to Repair or Replace a Deck in Canada?] Choosing the right materials impacts both the initial cost and long-term value.  While composite decking has a higher upfront cost, it offers durability and low maintenance, making it a cost-effective choice over time.  In contrast, wood decking is more affordable initially but requires regular maintenance to preserve its appearance and longevity . Design Features That Boost Deck Resale Value Enhancing your deck with thoughtful design features can significantly increase its appeal to potential buyers. Incorporating elements like built-in seating, integrated lighting, staircases, and privacy screens can transform your deck into a functional and inviting space.  These additions not only improve aesthetics but also enhance the usability of the outdoor area. The size and layout of your deck play a pivotal role in its value. Multi-level decks or those that create distinct zones for dining, lounging, and entertaining are particularly attractive to buyers seeking versatile outdoor living spaces . Custom-designed decks offer unique features tailored to your property’s style and your family’s needs. While they may come at a higher cost, the personalized touch can set your home apart in the market.  Prefabricated decks, on the other hand, are more budget-friendly and can still provide functional outdoor spaces. Extra Tips to Maximize Your Deck’s ROI in Canada To get the best return on investment from your deck, small consistent steps go a long way. Here’s how to protect your investment: Re-stain or reseal every 2–3 years to protect wood from moisture, sun, and rot. This keeps the deck looking new—and adds to your home’s curb appeal. Check for loose boards, cracks, or mold before each season. Small fixes early on prevent big expenses later. Add energy-efficient lighting, privacy screens, or modern railings over time. These upgrades increase comfort—and home improvement ROI in Canada. So, is it still profitable to build a deck in 2025?  Without a doubt.  And if your deck needs repairs or a refresh, our handyman and deck repair service is always here to help you get it done right.

What Should You Put Down Before Pressure Washing?

Ever wonder why some driveways sparkle after pressure washing, while others still look tired and patchy? It’s not just about water pressure. What you put down before pressure washing can make all the difference—especially here in Canada, where weather, salt, and seasonal dirt create stubborn build-up. Whether you’re cleaning a walkway, deck, or siding, pre-treatment is the real game-changer. It loosens grime, kills mold, and reduces the need for harsh pressure that can damage surfaces.  Think of it as prepping your surface to clean smarter, not harder. For seniors—or families helping aging parents—doing this yourself can be time-consuming, even risky.  That’s why many Canadians, especially homeowners and senior folks and families in Ontario, now trust Custodia Home Management.  Our experts handle the heavy lifting so you can enjoy peace of mind, a cleaner home, and more free time. From driveway degreasers to deck-safe detergents, this guide explains everything you should put down before pressure washing—and why it matters. Why Pre-Treatment Matters Pressure washing without pre-treatment is like scrubbing a pan without soaking it first—it just takes longer and wears you out. In many Ontario homes, stubborn stains, salt buildup, and mildew cling tight after long winters.  That’s where pre-treatment steps in. It saves you time, protects surfaces, and makes results shine—literally. Here’s why pre-treating before pressure washing is a game-changer: Need it done right? From salty driveways to weathered decks, each material requires the right pre-treatment to avoid damage and get lasting results.  Here’s how to treat each surface with expert care. These surfaces are prone to oil stains, tire marks, and mildew buildup. A powerful degreaser breaks down thick grime, while a diluted bleach rinse (or sodium hypochlorite) kills mold and bacteria before pressure washing.  Always let the solution sit for at least 10–15 minutes to penetrate deep into the surface. Organic growth and sun damage are common here. Using wood-safe detergents or oxygen bleach cleaners helps lift stains without harming the wood fibers.  Always avoid high pressure on wood—it can splinter or gouge the surface. Let the wood dry fully before sealing or staining to protect against future wear. Mold, algae, and discoloration are common problems, especially in shaded areas. Gentle house-wash solutions formulated for vinyl siding clean effectively without stripping color or damaging the panels.  Rinse nearby plants first and never spray upward—water can get behind the siding and cause hidden issues. Weeds, moss, and algae thrive in the joints between pavers. Apply a weed killer a few days beforehand, then clean with a paver-safe detergent.  Be mindful not to wash away joint sand—if it happens, refill with polymeric sand for added stability.
